Vic: Experts develop water use principles
International environmental experts have developed a set of guidelines aimed at promotingmore sustainable cities.
The guidelines -- tagged the Melbourne Principles -- will be taken to the United Nation'sWorld Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg later this year.
The Melbourne Principles were drawn up at a United Nations-sponsored conference yesterdayinvolving 40 experts from Australia, South Africa, Europe, Asia and North America.
The conference looked at improving ways to use and save the world's fresh water reserves.
STEVE HALLS from the United Nations Environment Program says while developing nationsoften had more pressing problems than access to safe drinking water and sanitation, improvementis needed.
