NSW: Inmate stabbed to death

SYDNEY, Aug 29 AAP - Police have launched a murder investigation after a 33-year-old
inmate was found stabbed to death at a New South Wales jail yesterday.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Corrective Services said the man's body was found
by prison officers in Cessnock Correctional Centre in the Hunter Valley about 2.30pm.

The man was serving a four-year sentence for supplying a prohibited drug, she said.

Police attended the scene yesterday and questioned prison guards and inmates but no
charges have been laid.

The spokeswoman said it was not known what prompted the attack or who was responsible.

Staff at the prison are being counselled.

The man's name has not been released.
